Words cannot describe how excited I am because I just received the shipment of my new album. I finally can reveal the title to you! It’s called SMILE. It is a collection of wonderful standards we love with a twist to make you smile. Our official release date will be April 20th. Between now and then, our publicist and radio promoter will take care of sending it out for reviews and airplay, we will be shooting a video, updating our website and sending it out to iTunes, Amazon and other outlets.

Don’t think that February 14th is the only day you can celebrate a romantic Valentine’s Day. I will be performing for the first time at the Mariposa Restaurant at Neiman-Marcus in Coral Gables. We will start the celebration on Thursday, the 11th with nightly shows until Sunday, the 14th. I just saw the menu and it is absolutely fabulous!

Everyone who came to the Bertofino’s show on January 23 could not stop raving about the food and service. If you can’t make it to Mariposa, I will be having my Come to the Cabaret Show at Bertofino’s on February 20th.

Where is Sylvia?

The best part of traveling is coming home to Key Biscayne! We came back three days before my Christmas concert at Bertofino’s. It was wonderful to share my new recently released album It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett. I particularly enjoyed everyone singing my new original songs “A Rainbow Christmas” and “It’s Christmas Time” with me. Of course, the regular Christmas classics like “Winter Wonderland” and “Let It Snow” were also favorites of the evening in warm South Florida.

I always enjoy the beginning of the New Year. It holds such promise for everyone particularly making New Year’s Resolutions that you are hoping to keep. I think that 2010 is going to be the best year ever for me because there are three major events happening: 1. I am getting ready to release my new CD, 2. This year will bring more performances, and 3. Believe it or not, my producer, Hal Batt, and I have begun working on our next recording project.

On January 23, I will be performing at Bertofino’s. Because it is so close to Valentine’s Day, my show will be dedicated to Love. It will include selections from my album Songs From the Heart as well as other wonderful favorites.

Where is Sylvia?

If you have been following my travels, my husband and I have enjoyed the past six months spending time together doing the things we love. We have spent time with our friends from near and far, we have been sightseeing with a little shopping here and there and I have had a few singing engagements. In between travels, we stopped in Miami for a few days to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Right now we are in Argentina visiting with friends and winding down before I begin the 2009-2010 Performance Season. I have been rehearsing throughout our vacation and I am so excited that it is only a week away. I enjoy singing and performing and I always look forward to sharing my music with my fans.

Speaking about that, my first performance of the season will be on December 12 at Bertofino’s. The show will include selections from the American songbook and from my CD It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett. This show is always very festive so I do hope you join me. Besides my performances at Bertofino's, I also have five additional singing engagements at Mariposa Restaurant at the Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables (see Save the Date section).

My current project is now in the final phase with the design already complete and only the finishing credits being added right now.

Where is Sylvia?

We drove down to Scottsdale staying one night in Palm Springs to break up the trip. It was exciting seeing the change from the topography in Carmel with its beautiful beaches, trees, mountains and flowers compared to the dry desert with very little color. We stayed at the Kierland Villas which was like an Oasis with its gorgeous golf courses and beautiful landscaping. We spent most of our time golfing, shopping, and exploring the area. We were even able to see the changing of the leaves in the mountains about an hour out of Scottsdale. The area was exceptional, the people were wonderful, and we look forward to going back.

As I write this, we just arrived in San Diego. We are reacquainting ourselves with this beautiful city as we have come here many times in the past because for my husbands Ophthalmology meetings. This time we will be able to enjoy as tourist.

As I am out here in the West Coast, my producer, Hal Batt, is making great progress in our new CD. He is in the studio in the final stages of mixing the product. I am hoping to release it in the early or middle part of next year. In the meantime, I am thrilled with the reviews we are getting for It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett. October Newsletter

As we were winding down our days in Carmel, we enjoyed them in many ways. We took lots of long walks by Carmel Beach; My favorite hike took place in Point Lobos Park where we were one with nature. We took scenic drives of the Big Sur coast enjoying the ever-changing scenery and even though I am not an avid golfer, I joined my husband in taking golf lessons so I could spend more time with him.

Musically, it was great to perform again with Lee Durley at Highland’s Inn. He is such a joy to work with because the most important thing for him is to please the audience. The day before we left, we had a meeting with Chef Jon the owner of Bistro 211. This is a beautiful restaurant with exquisite food and I am excited that this will be a “home” for us to perform our dinner shows while we are in the area. I will keep you posted on the dates.

We arrived in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 4th. Hal and I have already played golf twice as I write this newsletter. I am happy to say that the golf lessons are paying off. Hal had his best score ever and I am actually able to hit the ball from the tee and feel like an actual golfer.

Our next stops will be San Diego and San Francisco and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you next time.

Where is Sylvia?

This part of our trip feels more like a home away from home. We have been doing less traveling and a lot more socializing. We have had a few get-togethers with our friends from Carmel and Janet and Ed were here for their annual visit to Carmel.

Believe it or not, I have managed to squeeze in some business during this time. The other Janet and I have had weekly phone meetings to discuss the various projects we are working on. We are getting “Save the Date” postcards ready for my next Performance Season so keep an eye out for the large postcard in your mailbox.

We are also working with our publicist Kari on the upcoming release of the Christmas CD, It’s Christmas Time with Sylvia Bennett. This album is a fresh approach to holiday classics and includes four brand new songs written by me and my producer, Hal S. Batt. You will be able to listen to it at SmoothJazz.com when the holiday season begins. We have sent the CDs to CDBaby where you will be able to purchase it online. They are also available at The Island Shop in Key Biscayne, FL and at Sunriver in Carmel Valley, CA.

I’m still sorting through my trip photos so far and I’ll be posting them soon.

We started our journey in Vancouver, Canada where we picked up the cruise ship to travel the inside passage of Alaska. We then traveled through the Canadian Rockies. They are breathtaking. Every turn on the Ice Field Parkway between Jasper and Banff was a picture postcard. I understand why it is one of the top 10 drives in the World. The most unique experience on this trip was taking a bus on the Columbia Ice Fields. You get out of a special bus that drives you on the glacier where you walk on the ice itself for 20 minutes. Hiking in Lake Louise was my personal achievement: a 7-mile round-trip hike that went up 1200 feet. There is a tea house at the top where we were rewarded with a wonderful lunch. On the drive from Lake Louise to Banff we saw a mother bear and her cubs cross the highway right in front of our car. We were told that this was a unique experience that we were lucky to see. We continued our trip to Glacier National Park spending some time on both sides of the border. We went to Waterton, on the Canadian side where we saw a moose swimming in the lake and then walk right by us, and Montana, on the American side, where we did more hiking and sightseeing as we finished our trip.

We have been in Carmel, California for the last 2 weeks where we will be until the end of September. The highlight so far has been the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It is one of the biggest classic car shows in the world. We were among the thousands admiring the beauty and history of these cars. We especially enjoyed seeing them being driven through Big Sur. I was asked to make a special guest appearance at one of the private events celebrating the Concours as well as performing at a new venue in the area. I will be posting pictures of my latest travels on my website.

As for the new CD, before we left for our trips, I finished recording the vocals for all the songs. I needed to finish my part before I left so that Hal Batt could continue completing the project while I was away. Of the seven days between the two trips I spent four days in the studio not leaving me much time to pack. It was challenging, but also exciting, trying to do everything at once.
