Where is Sylvia?

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Fourth of July.

We just returned from a two week trip to South America.  The first week was a cruise to the Galapagos Islands.  We travelled with our dear friends The Segalls and their family.  I was certainly out of my comfort zone waking up too early, putting on a wetsuit and snorkeling, something I hadn’t done for years.  It was certainly worth it - to swim with the Sea Lions and to get up close and personal in their natural habitat.  They seemed to welcome our presence.  So did other inhabitants of the beautiful islands such as the Blue footed Booby birds, albatrosses, frigatebirds, giant Galapagos tortoises, iguanas and the many other incredible birds and animals.

The second week was a little more exerting to say the least.  We hiked the fabulous Machu Picchu Inca Ruins.  It was both spiritual and majestic and a challenge to climb.   We were lucky to have a knowledgeable guide that gave us great insight into the Inca world.

I will be posting our travel pictures on the web to share with all of you.

During this week, besides getting ready for our next travel adventure, I am going into the studio to finish recording the last four songs of the new project.  It is yet to be named but it is sure to put a smile on your face when you listen to it.  It is funny that every time I work on a project, I feel like it is the best one I have done so far.  Well, this one in no exception.  I think that this project will transcend everything I have done so far.  I am so excited that I want to tell you more about it but I have to contain myself and not let the cat out of the bag yet.  All I can say is that my multi-award winning long-time producer, Hal S. Batt, has outdone himself with this project.

The next four months my husband and I travel to the West Coast staying mainly in the Carmel, California area.  On Sunday, we are going to kick it off by traveling to Vancouver and then taking an Alaskan cruise on Wednesday to celebrate my dear friend Marla’s special birthday.  We return to Vancouver on the 22 and then travel to the Alberta Rockies in Canada.  When you receive the next newsletter, we will be traveling to Glacier National Park before we arrive in Carmel.

Where is Sylvia?

I had the time of my life working with my husband during my performances this past season. We had a great response to our shows at Bertofino’s, and I was able to offer my fans a variety of shows each time from Cabaret to By Request Only.

During the next few months (the off-season for me), I will continue working on the new CD that will be ready in 2010, I will be working, with my husband, on the material for the upcoming shows of the 2009-2010 season, and we will be doing some traveling. See our new section “Save the Date” to the right for upcoming performances.

We call Key Biscayne our home from December to April and we love the sun, the sights and all that South Florida has to offer; but during the summer and fall, my husband and I like to travel.

I still want to keep in touch with you in the next few months so I will keep you posted with my “Where is Sylvia” series. Our first stop was Gainesville. We will have a few days here at home and then we will be going to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. The rest of the summer will be an Alaskan Cruise, Vancouver, our yearly trip to Carmel and we will return to Buenos Aires for business and pleasure.

In the meantime, I wish you all a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you at my shows in the fall/winter season.

From the heart,
Sylvia

"They Can't Take That Away" takes on special meaning

This is Kim Allison, for Sylvia Bennett this time. Sylvia is my dear friend for many years and I also  work for her as manager and want to help keep her blog up to date when she is unable to do so. The following email came in and it is so touching, I wanted to share it with others.

From: Joe Montague ,Publisher for Riveting Riffs Magazine

www.rivetingriffs.com

I am working on this interview and I just transcribed these words of Sylvia’s as she spoke about the song, They Can’t Take That Away From Me. My best friend  lost her fiancé to cancer, last November. Seven years earlier she had come out of a horrendous marriage, and that is when I first met her. I just emailed Sylvia’s words to her. I thought that Sylvia should know that.

I look at that song and I say to myself, if you are in love with somebody today, and even if tomorrow they are not in your life, they can’t take away that time that you had together.—Sylvia Bennett, May 2008

Radio Stations playing our song -- thank you!

It has been a whirlwind! I've had a wonderful time talking to radio program directors myself to thank them for playing "Songs from the Heart featuring The Three Tenors...Boots Randolph, Ed Calle & Kirk Whalum." Everyone I spoke with really apppreciated that I personally took the time to call them.  I want to thank Paul Richards of WHYI, Jack Roberts of CRN Digital, Jim Raposa of Jones Standard Radio and Chuck Southcott also of Jones Standard Radio, Warren Lawrence of WKNY, Tron Simpson of KCMN, Dick Carr of Big Bands, Ballands & Blues, Jeff Gehringer of KSPA/KFSD and Gary Houser of KABI.  And, there are more to add to that list and I'll talk about them all more in my next post. Whew!  It's been great! --from the heart, Sylvia

New video on Youtube

One of my new video's is now on Youtube as well as my website. Lots of people ask me about the story behind the making of the CD "Songs from the Heart featuring The Three Tenors..Boots Randolph, Ed Calle and Kirk Whalum"  For this video, I was interviewed and also performed selections from the record.

It's quite an interesting story about how the project came about and also features an interview with producer extraordinairre Hal S. Batt.  People into smooth jazz, straight ahead jazz, adult standards and adult contemporary music are telling me that this CD is for them. I am so glad!  Check out the Youtube link and send along to a friend who might be interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO6av0US58I

California in August

I love Californa and spend several months there every year and always love performing there as well as spending vacation time. I'm excited about being in southern California in early August.  California friends mark your calendars now and plan to be at the Catalina Jazz Club at the Catalina Bar & Grill where I will perform Aug. 6 this year.  It's a great venue and I so look forward to seeing many of my California friends and fans there. --- from the heart -- Sylvia
